BM-Science researchers published results of a new study on the Depersonalization and Selfhood neurophenomenology

27 October 2022

While there is still a limited understanding of the Selfhood phenomenon, an emerging consensus is that the experiential Selfhood refers to a sense of the undergoing experience in its implicit first-person mode of givenness that is immediately and tacitly given as “mine”.

qEEG: Why, how, and what for? A new theoretical-conceptual review is published.

3 October 2022

This theoretical-conceptual review will take you on a journey through the world of quantitative electroencephalography (qEEG), where qEEG phenotypes are positioned on the functional continuum of health-pathology of primary functional domains (traits), which are dimensional in nature and transdiagnostic, thus providing better clinical, diagnostic, and prognostic utility of qEEGs.

Conversation series about Selfhood

25 August 2022

BM-Science together with KalpaTaru has started a conversation series about Selfhood in the fall 2022. The overall framework of the discussion could be concisely formulated by the following questions. What is it – Selfhood – from a neuro-physical and contemplative Eastern points of view? What is the essence of the subjectively perceived Selfhood?

Curiosities of the Brain

  • Should you make the Brain drunk?

Very low doses can have the positive effect of reducing damage caused by mental or emotional stress and can actually improve response times. In sustained high doses alcohol “shrinks” the brain that results in cognitive impairment. Foetal alcohol exposure has multiple bad effects on infant brain development and represents a leading cause of mental retardation.

  • What is in a Brain?

Mostly Fat! About 60% of the brain is composed of lipids. The brain needs lipid for insulation, and for the speed of operation of neuronal messaging.

  • How fast does the Brain develop?

Brain volume doubles between birth and six months of age, triples from birth to two and will reach adult volume at around five years of age.
