Brain QiGong research project

15 September 2020

BM-Science has partnered with Dr. Helena Hallenberg (Chinese Health) and Dr. Tarja Kallio-Tamminen (Quantum Physics and Philosophy of Science) to conduct a collaborative research study named “Brain QiGong”.

In this longitudinal study, we seek to explore the neural counterparts (measured by the qEEG) underling the effects of complex Qigong training consisting of movements, massage, meditation, and mental visualization. The Qigong training program has been developed with the aim to increase cerebral blood flow, improve brain oxygenation, restore brain resources and balance brain vigilance. Furthermore, it is expected that such program should also improve motor coordination and balance, reduce stress, improve cognitive processes, and clear and soothe the mind. The set of first-person reports will be also collected.

A paper on spatio-temporal brain dynamics that urges to bridge the “epistemic gap” between brain and mental realities through the dynamics of the brain’s time and space is published

28 September 2019

This brief comment marks the beginning of developing a comprehensive theory of spatio-temporal dynamics of brain-mind. It is hoped that in the future, with increased experimental research programs more knowledge of the spatio-temporal brain-mind dynamics will be accumulated and this would lead to establishment of a new, complete brunch of Spatiotemporal Neuroscience.

A neurophysiological hypothesis based on the three-dimensional model of Selfhood to account for the therapeutic actions of EMDR is proposed

10 July 2019

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy is included in many international trauma treatment guidelines and is also shortlisted as an evidence-based practice for the treatment of psychological trauma and Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). However, its neurobiological mechanisms have not yet been fully understood. In the present article a hypothesis is proposed

Curiosities of the Brain

  • How much energy does the Brain need?

The brain is in many respects the most energy-demanding organ in the body. The human brain represents only 2% of total body mass but consumes 20% of the body’s energy.

  • How fast does the Brain develop?

Brain volume doubles between birth and six months of age, triples from birth to two and will reach adult volume at around five years of age.

  • How much coffee the Brain would like?

Coffee does much more than keep you awake – it actually reduced cognitive decline. Studies demonstrated that the optimal dose was three cups of coffee per day. Caffeine was proposed to stimulate certain neurons that protect against neurotoxicity.
