The article with BM-Science researchers co-authorship gets social media attention

26 February 2018

The article “Topodynamics of metastable brains” published in Physics of Life Reviews journal is among this journal’s articles that have had the most social media attention during 2017 according to the recent report of the PlumX Metrics. PlumX Metrics provide insights into the ways people interact with individual pieces of research output (articles, conference proceedings, book chapters, and many more) in the online environment.

BM-Science educational program for general public

21 December 2017

During the 2017 year BM-Science researchers held a series of public seminars and lectures aiming to educate a general public about the functional state of the brain, its relation to personality, different cognitive and mental conditions, stress and neuropsychopathology. They also include practical information allowing to self-regulate different brain-mind states and process with different approaches (meditation, yoga, neuronutrition and diet, as well as physical exercise).

BM-Science researchers launch a research project “Controlled disentangling of self-components: Neurophenomenological QEEG study”

05 February 2017

The aim of this research program is to study a cause-consequence relations between three major dimensions (first-person perspective / the sense of agency; representational-emotional agency; reflective-narrative agency) of the phenomenal selfhood and related to them three subnets of the brain default-mode network (DMN). In order to achieve this objective a study will use the ability of highly experienced meditators to voluntary regulate their mental state.

  1. Selfhood trinity: Neurophenomenological evidence
  2. The "Self", The "Me", The "I": The neurophysiological basis of "I" and the mind development has been explored in a seminar of The Finnish Society for Natural Philosophy (Helsinki, Finland)
  3. BM-Science organises a roundtable on the theme "Meditation, brain function and the Self"
  4. qEEG explored in a seminar of The Finnish Society for Natural Philosophy (Helsinki, Finland)

Curiosities of the Brain

  • How much energy does the Brain need?

The brain is in many respects the most energy-demanding organ in the body. The human brain represents only 2% of total body mass but consumes 20% of the body’s energy.

  • What does infant Brain need?

Infants who are not breastfed or are partially breastfed should receive iron-fortified formula from birth to 12 months (The Committee on Nutrition of the American Academy of Paediatrics).

  • How does sense of taste serve the Brain?

The sweet taste signals the identification of energy rich foods, umami recognizes the amino acids of proteins, salt ensures the proper electrolyte balance and sour and bitter tastes warn against potentially toxic or poisonous intakes.
