BM-Science researchers launch a research project “Controlled disentangling of self-components: Neurophenomenological QEEG study”

05 February 2017

The aim of this research program is to study a cause-consequence relations between three major dimensions (first-person perspective / the sense of agency; representational-emotional agency; reflective-narrative agency) of the phenomenal selfhood and related to them three subnets of the brain default-mode network (DMN). In order to achieve this objective a study will use the ability of highly experienced meditators to voluntary regulate their mental state.

Selfhood trinity: Neurophenomenological evidence

20 January 2017

BM-Science researchers in a series of empirical studies (study-1, study-2, study-3, study-4 and study-5) demonstrated the existence of three-dimensional components of Selfhood: Self-Me-I. These three components of selfhood have distinctive behavior in different healthy conditions and in different brain pathologies.

The "Self", The "Me", The "I": The neurophysiological basis of "I" and the mind development has been explored in a seminar of The Finnish Society for Natural Philosophy (Helsinki, Finland)

22 March 2016

Researchers of BM-Science Centre participate in a seminar of The Finnish Society for Natural Philosophy, held in Helsinki, in March 22nd 2016.

Curiosities of the Brain

  • How does the Brain breathe?

Brain needs 10 times more oxygen than the whole organism.

  • What is in a Brain?

Mostly Fat! About 60% of the brain is composed of lipids. The brain needs lipid for insulation, and for the speed of operation of neuronal messaging.

  • How much coffee the Brain would like?

Coffee does much more than keep you awake – it actually reduced cognitive decline. Studies demonstrated that the optimal dose was three cups of coffee per day. Caffeine was proposed to stimulate certain neurons that protect against neurotoxicity.
